Saint John Bosco’s Feast Day, 2023

previously posted January 31, 2020 by evensong

Today is the feast day of good Saint John Bosco, a favorite of mine and so we have a few of his prophecies which are quite apt for this especial time. To introduce them, another brief quote, this time from Apocalypse (Chapter 6, 9-14).

“When he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held. And they cried with a loud voice, saying: How long, O Lord (holy and true) dost thou not judge and revenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?

“And white robes were given to every one of them one; and it was said to them, that they should rest for a little time, till their fellow servants, and their brethren, who are to be slain, even as they, should be filled up.

“And I saw, when he had opened the sixth seal, and behold there was a great earthquake, and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair: and the whole moon became as blood: And the stars from heaven fell upon the earth, as the fig tree casteth its green figs when it is shaken by a great wind: And the heaven departed as a book folded up: and every mountain, and the islands were moved out of their places.”

The above is something to think about. For more than 10 years I have written about it but few give heed. And now for St. John Bosco; first, his Dream (vision) of the Two Pillars.

In May, 1862, Don Bosco told of a dream he had of the Church as a stately ship in stormy waters, being besieged by many lesser ships. The ship’s commander, the Pope, was attempting to bring the ship between two pillars to which he would moor it. After the Commander Pope was killed, another Pope took over and successfully moored the ship between the two columns. Don Bosco identified the smaller of the two pillars as “Mary, Help of Christians” and the larger one as “The Most Blessed Sacrament, Salvation of Believers”.

Note, that in St. John Bosco’s dream, the ship of the Church was struggling to fight off attackers and return to safe harbor between the two pillars of devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Holy Eucharist.

Thus, in this vision, the Church was attempting to return to those devotions, implying that the Church had become unmoored from them. This was a vision of our post-conciliar church.

Note, that this vision is also a prophetic indication of the way in which the crisis will be resolved. That is, by a return to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, the Eucharistic Lamb and to devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God.

Don Bosco also made another prophecy, which is related in the book by Rev. Gerald Culleton, “The Prophets and Our Times”.

“And to you, Rome, what will happen? Ungrateful Rome! Effeminate Rome! proud Rome! …

“Rome! To you I will come four times! The first time, I shall strike your lands and the inhabitants thereof. The second time, I shall bring the massacre and the slaughter even to your very walls. And will you not yet open your eyes I shall come a third time and I shall beat down to the ground your defenses and the defenders and at the command of the Father, the reign of terror, of dreadful fear and of desolation shall enter into your city.

“But My wise men have now fled and My law is even now trampled underfoot. Therefore I will make a fourth visit. Woe to you if My law shall still be considered as empty words. There will be deceit and falsehood among both the learned and the ignorant. Your blood and that of your children will wash away your stains upon God’s Law. War, pestilence and famine are the rods to scourge men’s pride and wickedness. O wealthy men, where is your glory now, your estates, your palaces? They are rubble on the highways and byways. …

Now the voice from Heaven addresses the Pastor of pastors: ‘You are in the great Conference with your Assessors, but the enemy of the good does not rest for a moment. He is studying and deploying every device against you; he will raise up enemies from among my sons. The powers of this world will vomit fire and will stifle the words of those who guard my law. It will not be.’

“It was a dark night. Men could no longer tell which way to take in order to return to their homes. Of a sudden there appeared in the heavens a very bright light that illuminated the steps of the travelers as though it were mid-day. At that moment there was seen a host of men and women, of young and old, of nuns, monks and priests with the Holy Father at the head. They were going out from the Vatican and were arranging themselves in line for a procession. “Then there came a furious storm which clouded that light somewhat and made it appear that light and darkness were engaged in battle. In the meantime, they arrived at a little square covered with dead and wounded, some of whom cried aloud and asked for help.

“Very many were dropping out of the line of procession. After having walked for a time that would correspond to two hundred risings of the sun (200 days) they all realized that they were no longer in Rome. Struck with fear they all ran to the Holy Father to defend him personally and to attend his wants. Instantly two angels were seen carrying a banner, going they presented it to the Holy Father and said: ‘Receive the banner of He Who fights and scatters the strongest armies of the world. Your enemies are dispersed. Your children with tears and sighs beg you to return.’ “Looking at the banner one could see written on one side, ‘Queen conceived without sin,’ and on the other side, ‘Help of Christians.’

“The Holy Father joyfully took the banner, but looking closely at the small number of those who remained with him, he became very sad. “The two angels added: ‘Go quickly to console your children. Write your brothers dispersed throughout the world that there must be a reform in the morals of men. That cannot be obtained except by distributing to the people the bread of the Divine Word. Catechize the children. Preach the detaching of the heart from the things that are of the earth. The time has come,’ concluded the two angels, ‘when the poor shall evangelize the people. Vocations will come from among those working with the spade, the axe, and the hammer to the end that they fulfill the words of David: ‘God has raised up the poor from the land in order to place them on the thrones of the princes of His people.

“Having heard that, the Holy Father began the march. The farther he went the greater did the procession behind increase. When finally he set foot in the Holy City, he wept bitter tears for the distress in which he found the people and the large number now missing.

As he entered St. Peter’s he intoned the ‘Te Deum’ to which a choir of angels replied singing: ‘Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to men of good will.” With the ending of the hymn, there came an end to the thick darkness and the sun shone with a brightness all its own.

And now, a few notes on these prophecies:

  • Note the mention of darkness, confusion, the impression that “light and darkness were engaged in battle.” An apt description of this current age of apostasy.
  • When the Pope and those faithful to him left Rome (journeying to the peripheries perhaps?), they passed by faithful Catholics wounded and dying and took note of them, but there is no mention of offering them aid, is there?
  • As the Pope advanced farther from Rome, very many dropped out. Seems to indicate that the farther the Pope gets from the true dogmas of the Faith, the less Catholics are inclined to follow, as we see in the grim statistics marking the withering “Springtime” of Vatican II.
  • But the most significant portion of the prophecy is when the two angels appear to tell the Pope: ‘Receive the banner of He Who fights and scatters the strongest armies of the world. Your enemies are dispersed. Your children with tears and sighs beg you to return.’ “Looking at the banner one could see written on one side, ‘Queen conceived without sin,’ and on the other side, ‘Help of Christians.’
  • In this, as in his prophecy of the Two Pillars, St. John Bosco affirms that Christ the King prefers to conquer through means of His Most Blessed Mother. The banner of Christ the King bears two of her titles: The first, “conceived without sin” is of course, the Immaculate Conception and the second title is also very informative, “Mary Help of Christians, Our Lady of Victory”. That is her title for vanquishing the Muslims, which will be accomplished at her last apparition at Fatima to end the Islamist war on Christians.
  • And also note: “Your blood and that of your children will wash away your stains upon God’s Law. War, pestilence and famine are the rods to scourge men’s pride and wickedness.” As we have noted previously, the blood of martyrs cries out and will not be denied. War, pestilence and famine . . ..  It’s a good time to observe and do penance if anyone is paying attention.
