For Saint Rafael on his Holy Day

It was on Saint Rafael’s Day that my husband and I first met 62 years ago.  And we have maintained an abiding devotion to him.  On more than one occasion, when we were in dire need, Saint Rafael helped us, without fail.  Now our family has Holy Mass said on great Archangel Rafael’s Holy Day and we pray at my husband’s grave, thanking Saint Rafael  for “introducing” us.. I am greatly indebted to the Society’s News page for their beautiful article on this great saint, as I was unable to provide a post of my own due to the constraints of my health. LINK.

Sermon of St. Bonaventure for the Feast of St. Raphael.

Raphael’s name means medicine from God. And we must remark that we can be rescued from evil by three benefits that St. Raphael grants us when he heals us. First Raphael, the celestial physician, rescues us from spiritual infirmity by leading us to the salutary bitterness of contrition, which refers to what Raphael said to Tobias: “As soon as you enter your house, anoint his eyes with gall.” He did so and his father received his sight.

Why shouldn’t Raphael himself perform this anointing? Because an Angel does not give compunction; his role is to show the way. In this gall, therefore, we see the image of the bitterness of contrition, which makes the inner eyes of the soul healthy; a Psalm tells us: “He heals those who are contrite in heart.” This contrition is an excellent eye wash.

St. Michael and the Power of Darkness 2022

For the great and beloved Saint Michael on his feast day, September 29, 2019.

Today we honor the great angelic Saint, Michael the Archangel, he of the flaming sword who is also, as he assures us, “The Angel of Peace”.  How can this be? St. Michael explained this:

‘Make of everything you can a sacrifice, and offer it to God as an act of reparation for the sins by which He is offended, and in supplication for the conversion of sinners. You will thus draw down peace upon your country. I am its Angel Guardian, the Angel of Portugal. Above all, accept and bear with submission the suffering which the Lord will send you.’

Thus, sacrifice and reparation are called for. Of course, you regular readers saw that coming  didn’t you? Forgive me, but this is such a grand time to be a Catholic and to do what true Christians do best – take up our crosses and follow the Man! In this way, we obey the great Saint Michael, the Angel who promises peace to us – the peace of Jesus Christ Our Lord.

Novena to Saint Michael the Archangel

Today we have a Novena to ask St. Michael the Archangel to protect our families. It should be prayed from today, September 20, through September 28, which is the eve of St. Michael’s feast day on September 29.

My apologies for not getting this posted sooner. I’ve had some delays in posting due to difficulties with my medical care.

“When the Archangel Michael contending with the devil, disputed about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a reviling judgment upon him  which would have been the purview only of God, but said, ‘The Lord rebuke you.’” (Jude 9)

This means, pray the Lord to rebuke satan, do not take upon yourself to battle but beseech God, the Most Blessed Virgin, Saint Joseph and the Angels, especially St. Michael. (Unattributed quote, contributed anonymously.)
